Far from the Madding Crowd – Thomas Hardy

I had to read this in school. As a typical teenager I was expecting a bore-fest, and what I actually got was a tale not unlike the complicated love triangles we had gotten ourselves into at our comprehensive school.

I was hooked.

The classic story of girl meets boy, then another boy, then another….but which boy does she choose?! The hot naughty one? The boring sensible one? Or the practical no-nonsense one?

Bathsheba (amazing name) is a strong businesswoman in a man’s world, taking no messing but falling helplessly in love.

I love this book. And I guess the real lesson is never judge a book by its age, love stories are pretty universal.

Pick up a classic. You might recognise your own lovelife in there somewhere.
